Imphal, January 02 2010:
As yet another round of talks between the represen-tatives of the Government and the Apunba Lup, which is spearheading the agitation over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, failed to arrive at any definite conclusion, uncertainty still hangs over fate of the students who have not attended classes for over 100 days now.
According to a reliable source, during the talk held at a place of Imphal East district yesterday, the Apunba Lup was represented by its co-ordinators and assistant co-ordinators while the Government was represented by its Works Minister K Ranjit, Education Minister L Jayantakumar and PDA Chairman Dr Loken.
During the talk, the Government gave its assurance on fulfilling most of the demands raised by the Apunba Lup on November 30 last after a slight relaxation in its earlier position, the source disclosed, adding that taking up necessary legal action against the police commandos involved who have already been placed under suspension and suspension of Additional SP of Imphal West from service were among the demands of the Apunba Lup to which the State Government has given its assurance to fulfil.
The State Government, however, did not agree to the demands for resignation of Ibobi from the post of Chief Minister or relinquishing the portfolio of the Home Minister and transfer of DGP and SP Imphal West outside Manipur.
Instead of this, the Government placed the proposal for transferring SP Imphal West to either MR or IRB which was turned down by the representatives of the Apunba Lup.
The talk abruptly ended when the representatives of the Government insisted on holding consultation with the Chief Minister first on the demands including those which have already been assured in earlier talks much to the discomfiture of the representatives of the Apunba Lup.
It may be recalled here that on November 30 last, the Apunba Lup relaxed its earlier stand and raised the demands giving option for either resignation of the Chief Minister or giving up the portfolio of Home, transfer of DGP, suspension of Imphal West SP or transfer outside Manipur, suspension of Additional SP of Imphal West, taking up legal action against the commando personnel who have already been placed under suspension, expansion of the ongoing one-man Agarwal Commission into a three-member inquiry commission, modification of the terms of reference of the ongoing inquiry and simultaneous conduct of the judicial inquiry and investigation by the CBI.
