Imphal, November 01:
Contending that the existing criteria and parameter for recruitment of primary teachers does not incorporate any clause on the qualification of the prospective candidates concerning Meetei Mayek, MEELAL has resolved to ban the proposed recruitment of primary teachers.
A statement issued by MEELAL noted that even as Meetei Mayek has been introduced in classes I, II and III, the initiative of the State Government has come to nought as qualification on Meetei Mayek has not been made mandatory in the recruitment of teachers.
Even though the Board of Secondary Education Manipur was empowered to decide the essential qualifications and parameters for recruitment of teachers under Manipur Secondary Education Act 1972-73, the appointment of teachers by the State Government was conducted in a way akin to recruitment of clerks.
The MEELAL statement further warned that the BSEM and the State Govt would be held responsible for any untoward incident resulting from their efforts to conduct the recruitment of primary teachers defying the indefinite ban imposed by MEELAL.
