Imphal, March 13:
Reacting to the news report published under the caption, "UNLF points blast finger at SF" in the March 13 issue of this paper, Assam Rifles has strongly refuted the charges adding that the allegations are baseless.
In a statement, PIB (Defence Wing), quoting AR authorities said that the security force has never planted IEDS against the people maintaining that they are here to protect the local people and not harm them.
In the past the UNLF has laid many IEDs which have claimed the lives of many and maimed others as well, said the statement.
Citing some examples, the statement said that in December 2005, one civilian was injured in an IED blast at Sehlon while another civilian was killed near Hengshi by the UNLF by tying an IED on his stomach.
In January this year two UNLF cadres fell in their own traps and were injured in the general area south east of Hengshi.
Again in February this year, the outfit threatened the villagers of Kwatha Khunou, Moiphei, Saikul, Satang and Bongjang to vacate their villages or else face dire consequences as they planned to plant IEDS in the area, claimed Assam Rifles.
