BSF issued notices on Kumbi killing

Imphal, June 14: Gauhati High Court has issued notices to the BSF authorities in connection wjth gunning down of one Wahengbam Manglemba by BSF personnel at Kumbi on August 5, 2001.In his Imphal Bench sitting Justice SK Kar passed the order on May 29 following a writ petition filed .by Gambhini Devi, wife of the deceased person.

Manglemba along with another innocent persons were allegedly gunned down by BSF personnel after the latter stormed Kumbi area following an encounter with UGs on August 5, 2001.Manglemba was shot dead inside a toilet.

Contending that her husband was killed in cold blooded manner, the petitioner sought Rs 3 lakhs as compensation.

She also prayed before the Court to prosecute the BSF personnel involved in the killing.

The State Govt had already paid Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin of deceased Manglemba.
