The corpse of a woman suspected to be murdered after being raped was found in a drain along side a hilly road in between Chanam Sandrok and Thiyam, about 6 kms East of Irilbung police station today at about 3 pm.
The corpse was discovered by some school children on their way home.
On receiving information of the discovery, Irilbung police picked up the corpse and deposited the same at RIMS mortuary.
According to information received from police, the woman who appeared to be below 30 years of age is suspected to have been killed after being raped by crushing her head with a heavy object like a stone last night.
The woman was found with her face on the ground.
The upper portion of her black blouse was found pulled apart.
Her panty was also found pulled down.
The outer garment (phanek) was found wrapped loosely around the waist.
The phanek was similar to the traditional phanek of Chothe tribe.
The deceased was found wearing a ring on the ring finger and bangle on the left wrist.
She was found wearing a pair of slippers.
Injury marks indicative of crushing the head with something like a stone were observed in addition to injuries on the face.
The deceased appeared to be a married woman.
A blood stained stone was recovered from the spot by police.
