Imphal, August 28: Motor cycle borne commando personnel (Apache squad) of Imphal East district police resorted firing in the air to stop a young girl, who reportedly took to her heels on seeing the mobile security personnel at near Loklaobung Thambuthong this afternoon.

The girl later identified as Aribam Deepa (24) d/o (L) A Jasobanta of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai was cornered by the commando team after a few distance and finally apprehended with the assistance of some local women folk.

With the locals insisting that Deepa was mentally unsound, the commandos confirmed her condition after consulting her family elders.

She reportedly threw a black polythene pack towards a drain before fleeing.

The packet could not be retrieved even though a search a conducted.
