Imphal, October 27: The All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) while appreciating the SPF Government for installing a DIET centre at Tamei, has appealed that necessary facilities which are yet to be given for the centre be fulfilled immediately.

The AZSU information and publicity secretary Achapbou and ZSUM joint secretary Humaliabou in a statement said that quarters of the DIET centre had not been constructed although Rs 55 lakhs had been released already in the month of March.

They said that the work agency called MDS was supposed to take up the construction task but nothing had been moved forward.

The DIET centre which was inaugurated on February 8 this year has not been functional till date due to want of facilities, said the student leaders.

The Zeliangrong students� bodies have pledged to resort to taking up strongest form of agitations if the concerned authorities display indifferent attitude towards their appeals.

The students leaders then disclosed that one M.Gunamani who is the lecturer of the DIET centre is yet to report and join their centre till today.

It urged the Government to take up action against the lecturer who is not minding his duties till date.

DIET centre should stay at Tamei: The DIET Centre at Tamei, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh should not be shifted to Tamenglong headquarters as Tamei is an appropriate place to keep such a centre, convenor of Zeliangrong Students� Union (ZSU), Tamei Area N Lungphakbou has stated.

In a statement, Lungphakbou further pointed out that apart from the desire of the people of Tamei sub-division, most of the staff of the DIET Centre also want that it should not be shifted from Tamei at all.

He also reasoned that Tamei being a part of the most backward Tamenglong district needs to share a part of the developmental projects being taken to be able to catch up with some development blocks of the district.

Therefore, the question of shifting the DIET Centre is not appropriate and genuine.

If any organisation see anything wrong in keeping the DIET Centre at Tamei, then they should come forward and see what is lacking at Tamei, the convenor said, adding that keeping the DIET Centre at Tamei successfully is in the interest of all round development of the neglected Tamenglong district and ZSU, Tamei area always stand for all round development of the district.
