Keeping in view of the large number of rural population still unable to get medical facilities in the country, the Manipur Chapter of Inter-Media Publicity Co-ordination Committee (IMPCC) with its member units conducted a public awareness campaign on rural health with special emphasis on mother and child care.
A statement issued by IMPCC chairman M Kanan Kumar informed that the 2 days multi-media campaign came to an end on May 21 at Sanpangjar village.
The primary objective of the National Rural Health Mission launched by the Union Govt is to increase to public spending from 0.9 per cent to 2.3 percent of GDP besides its goal of reducing Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), revealed the statement.
The multimedia campaign was actively supported by DDK, AIR, PIB, Food and Nutrition Dept, Field Publicity Division, Regional Health and Family Welfare, Song and Drama Division, Nehru Yuva Kendra and security forces.
As a part of the campaign, free medical and veterinary camps were organised by 6 Jat Regiment under the aegis of 57 Mountain Division.
The Dept of Audio-Visual Publicity besides organising Healthy Baby Show competition presented a lecture and distributed publicity material to the public.
Moreover the Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Imphal and Regional Health and Family Welfare, Imphal conducted lectures and demonstrations on various aspects of rural health and nutrition for mother and child, it mentioned.
While opening the campaign of May 20, Revenue Commissioner P Sarat Chandra remarked that the initiative of IMPCC is for a noble cause that would help in addressing the health problems of rural population.
