At least ten activists of different undergrounds groups including five Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) including a woman activist, three KYKL and one UNLF were nabbed by the state police commandos and Assam Rifles during the last 24-hour from different parts of the state.
Five of them including the woman activist belonging to KCP(MC)-Lamyanba Khuman group and two KYKL cadres were apprehended by Imphal West Police Commandos in separate counter insurgency operations, the UNLF cadre was nabbed by troops of 23 Assam Rifles while the remaining one, an activist of KCP (MC) was nabbed by a team of Thoubal Police Commandos yesterday at about 2.30 pm from Wangbal near Sorojini Oil Pump.
Police seized two 9 mm pistols loaded with two live rounds, a Chinese made hand grenade and 20 demand letters of the group from the possession one of the activists nabbed by the Imphal West police commandos and two live rounds were recovered from the activist nabbed by the Thoubal police commandos, reports said.
The five activists including the woman activist of the KCP(MC) Lamyanba Khuman along with the seized items from one of them identified as Phurisabam Sunish @ Surjit (26) son of Ph Manglemba of Uripok Basashpati Leikai were produced before the media today at Imphal West commandos office.
The woman activist was identified as Kshetrimayum Bhanu (35) daughter of Ksh Natum of Uripok Basashapati Leikei.
The remaining three activists were Athokpam Bikramjit (25) son of A Doren of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Lukram Thambou @ Monsi (23) son of L Akendrojit of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai and Aribam Johny (25) son of A Chandrakumar of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.
Additional SP, Imphal west, Dr AK Jhaljit speaking to media persons said that four of them were rounded up in the follow up action after the nabbing of Sunish today at about 8.30 am from near the Uripok Oil pump.
Sunish was a former activist of PREPAK under Army no.280538 of 2008 who recently joined the KCP(MC)-Lamyanba Khuman group through one Sagolsem ongbi Chanchal @ Mona wife of S Thabi of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai who is working under the command of one Bobby of the group, self style DC of Imphal west operating from Guwahati.
As disclosed by him, Jhaljit said Sunish had extorted Rs 5000 each from the lecturers of GP Women College, Imphal College.
He had given mobile number of DC Bobby to Forest Ranger Rajen of Swombung forest gate to contact him.
The money extorted shared among them.
The seized items were found concealed at the house of Sunish and used in the intimidation, extortion etc., he revealed.
Thuobal police commandos also apprehended an activists of KCP(MC) working in the finance section of the organisation during a frisking and checking operation along the NH-39 at Wangbal near Sorojini Oil Pump, a statement of the Senior SP, Thoubal police Caly Khongsai said.
He has been identified as Yumnam Roji Meetei alias Apang alias Chingtam (32), son of late Y Ragumani of Keishampat Elangbam Leikai.
Two live ammunitions of 9 mm seized from his possession.
Two KYKL cadres were also nabbed by the commandos of Imphal west district yesterday at about 6.35 pm from near Moirangkhom Oil Pump.
They were identified as Khangabam Surjit (46) son of late Brajakumar of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi and Gurumayum Arjun (35) son of late Gyneshwor of Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal.
They were signed for extortion money from government department under the instruction of Kadamjit of the outfit.
They deposited money extorted by them to a bank account at the Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank operating in the name of Kh Surjit, the statement added.
Troops of Assam Rifles also apprehended a cadre of UNLF from general area of Takhel of Imphal east district today, at about 1.45 pm.
He has been identified as Keisham Ningthowal (20) son of Ibomcha of Takhel Maning Leikai and handed over to Lamlai police station, a statement of the IGAR (S) said today.
A combined team of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 28 AR also nabbed another KYKL cadre identified as Saraisham Milankumar @ Hattapa (42) son of S Brajamani of Heirangoithong Ningthemcha Karong yesterday at about 8.30 pm from Narankonjin Machin near Pukhri Achouba Mapal.
