The Accelerated Rural Water Supply Schemes constructed by Public Health Engineering Department of the Government at Laphupat Tera and Shamusang under Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency have been inaugurated today.
PHE Minister TN Haokip, Chairman of MANITRON Dr Kh Ratankumar and Chief Engineer of PHE Department G Joychandra attended the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
PHE Minister TN Haokip formally inaugurated and dedicated the water supply schemes to the people.
The install capacity of the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Scheme at Laphupat Tera constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 33.86 lakhs is 0.27 MLD.
It would be able providing drinking water to 3216 people of Laphupat Tera village.
The scheme is to be run with water from Imphal River.
For the first phase, in all 15 public hydrants have been set up.
On the other hand, the install capacity of the newly inaugurated water supply scheme at Shamusang is 0.18 MLD and it would be meeting the drinking water to requirement of 2135 people of the area.
A total amount of Rs 30.21 lakhs had been spend on its installation.
The scheme would be utilising the water of Nambul river which would be stored in a 36 ML capacity pond and supply to the people after proper treatment.
For the first phase, in all 10 public hydrants have been set up for the purpose.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister TN Haokip said that inspite of the problems faced by the Department the water supply schemes have materialised with the co-operation of the people.
So the public should take care of these schemes as their own private properties.
Emphasising the need for setting up a local committee to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the water supply schemes, the Minister assured that necessary training would be provided to the proposed committee from the side of the Department.
There is also an action plan of the Government in this connection, he told the gathering.
In his presidential address, Dr Kh Ratankumar who is also the elected representative of the Constituency pointed out that public have a great responsibility towards implementation of the welfare programmes of the people being taken up by the Government.
He also sought the co-operation of the local clubs, Meira Paibis and the public at large for co-operation in implementing such welfare programmes.
Taking note of the problems being faced by the people of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, Dr Ratankumar said the Government has been giving top priorities in development of areas like supply of drinking water, construction of roads and bridges, health care, electricity and education.
However, taking up all these development programmes has not been able to accomplished fully due to pressures from various quarters, he said, adding that this is really unfortunate for the people.
While appealing to all concerned to restrain from giving any sort of disturbance in taking up developmental programmes and schemes, he also exhorted the public for proper monitoring of the developmental programmes being taken up by the Government so that necessary rectification could be made in time.
Chairperson of Uchiwa Zilla Parishad O Thambal, Chairperson of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council Ibemhal Devi and officials of the PHE Departments were also present during the inaugural function of the water supply schemes.
