Imphal, April 22:
Taking serious note of the death of many persons during demolition of buildings at Singjamei, the local Meira Paibis alleged that the mishap occurred due to the inept handling of the demolition work by the authority concerned.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the Meira Paibis asserted that as the buildings along with the plots have been taken over by the State Government after compensating the owners, the State Government should be solely responsible for the demolition of the standing structures without causing collateral damage and human casualty.
Observing that many more buildings still remain standing at dilapidated state which may crumble any time, it urged authority concerned to dismantle the structures within five days.
The memorandum also demanded adequate compensation to all the deceased including Laikangbam Indrakumar and those injured.
It further warned of strong agitation if the demands are not met in time.
