Three UNLF and two KYKL activists have been arrested from different places by Imphal West district police commandos today.
The three UNLF activists are identified as Konsam Jiban Singh (29) s/o K Bisambhor of naoremthong Shamushang Lairembi Leirak, Lairenmayum Jadumani alias Bungcha alias Keiphaba alias Bikram (24) s/o L Chandrakumar of Uripok Polem Leikai and Ningombam Ngouba alias Ningomba alias Sanathoi (22) s/o N Ibohal Singh of Kitana Panung.
Jadumani (Army No 1211 of 19th batch) is said to be a lance corporal of the outfit.
Ngouba's army No is 1614 of 26th batch.
Informing that the trio were nabbed at around 11 am, a statement issued by the SP (IW) said the arrest was made from Tera Loukrakpam Leikai where the commando team was on patrolling duty.
In another statement, the SP described the two arrested KYKL men as 'active members' and identified them as Lairenjam Nandakishwor Singh (38) s/o L Manihar of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Lairenjam Leirak and Ningthoujam Herojit Singh (24) s/o N Joy of Tera Sapam Leirak.
Both were hauled up from Churachandpur Bus Parking in Keishampat during frisking and checking duty at around 7.25 am.
Meanwhile, an encounter took place between a team of police commandos and suspected UG activists at Nongbram area under Yairipok police station at around 8.30 am today.
Even though a red-coloured Pulsar motor cycle (MN01/8953) likely to have been used by the UGs was recovered from the encounter site there is no report of casualty on either side.
Bomb exploded: Police and 21 AR bomb experts defused an explosive device recovered from Keirak Loubuk under Kakching police station this morning.
Unclaimed bodies: As no one had claimed the bodies laying at the RIMS mortuary since August 13 the same would be handed over to Imphal Municipal council personnel for disposal on August 21.
