Taking serious note of the indifferent attitude of the Govt of India towards the six year long unprecedented struggle Irom Chanu Sharmila, Kangleipak Loinashillon Apunba Marup (KLAM) remarked that such callous attitude only eroded the credibility of the political system of India.
During a press meet today, president of KLAM Keithellakpam Sanahongba Mangang observed that the Govt of India ought to save the life of Sharmila by fulfilling her demand.
Taking strong exception to the failure of the Union Government to take up any initiative towards fulfilling the demand of Sharmila, Sanahongba construed that the Union Government did not honour the aspirations and wishes of its citizens.
He observed that the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 has become an instrument to violate human rights at will and it has strained the relationships between the civilians and the security forces.
The KLAM president that the Govt of India would be held responsible if Sharmila succumbed to her fasting when the Union Government has been looking askance to her cause.
Concerning the issue of primary teachers' recruitment, Sanahongba maintained that the movements of MEELAL were justified.
He even went on to say that even if there were violent activities in the course of MEELAL's agitation, it was only a result of the Govt's inept handling of the issue.
