Imphal, Jun 17: Terming it a deliberate act of security forces to victimise and terrorise innocent civilians, the Village Development Committee, Khelakhong has flayed and strongly condemned the arrest of Md Nizamudin alias Tomba in the midnight of June 15 by a combined team of 34 AR and 22 Maratha LI without providing any arrest memo.

A statement issued by the Committee asserted that Nizamudin is an innocent and simple farmer in addition to being an executive member of the Village Development Committee.

It also took strong exception to the inhuman thrashing of many persons who were fishing at fish farms on the day by the combined team.

The farmers were beaten blue and black on the pretext that they refused to claim themselves as insurgents even after it was confirmed that all of them were innocent civilians, alleged the statement.

Moreover the combined team of AR and MLI thrashed Nizamudin severely after repeatedly wetting him in front of his own wife and children, it disclosed.

Maintaining that such torture of civilians is gross violation of human rights, the Committee demanded immediate release of Nizamudin and appealed to all concerned to desist from ill-treatment and torture of civilians.
