Chandel, August 16 2015: Chandel district, a home to many community groups which showcases the concept of the country's "Unity in Diversity", celebrated the country's 69th Independence Day on August 15 at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary school ground, Japhou passed off peacefully.

During the event, Chandel Deputy Commissioner Robert Singh Kshetrimayum highlighted various development initiatives and challenges being taken up by the State Government and sought the people's cooperation in order to lead the district towards peace and development.

Organised under the aegis of the Chandel district administration, the celebration was marked by unfurling of the National flag, colourful parades of 42 contingents participated by police personnel of Manipur Rifles, Manipur Police, VDF, ex-servicemen, college and school students, cultural performances and distribution of awards and prizes.

As part of the celebration, a football match between DC-XI team and Chiefs-XI team was played.

Churachandpur: India's 69th Independence Day was celebrated at several places across the district on Saturday with main event being hosted at Lamka public ground where 55 contingents participated in the parade, reports Singlianmang Guite.

At the district headquarters, Lunminthang Haokip, Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur unfurled the National flag and took salutes from 55 colourful parade contingents.

The celebration was particularly historic for Mualnuam as it was the first Independence Day celebrated at the village following the creation of Mualnuam sub-division.

Vungzagin Valte, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary was accompanied by many public leaders and officials to make the event significant and also to commemorate the creation of Mualnuam sub-division.

Newly appointed SDO, Thangboi Gangte unfurled the tri-color and took salute from 11 parade contingents.

People from 18 villages and village chiefs, DLOs, CSO leaders and the president of ZRO also attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Valte said he was elated that Mualnuam has been elevated to be the sub-divisional Headquarters by the State Government.

He said that the move of the Government will advance developmental activities taken up for the people.

The Parliamentary Secretary also urged the Government employees posted in the Mualnuam sub-division to discharge their duties earnestly and the villagers in return should co-operate with the employees so as to attain development in the area.

Kangppokpi (Senapati): People of Sadar Hills under Sadar Hills administration, Kangpokpi celebrated the 69th Independence Day for the first time in an open space at Brigadier Thomas ground, Kangpokpi on August 15, reports our correspondent.

Unfortunately, the euphoric celebration was disturbed by a threat call to the district administration by a suspected Kuki outfit who had reportedly declared to boycott the occasion.

The function, however, was held successfully as scheduled.

People from different parts of Sadar Hills gathered at Brigadier Thomas ground to observe the 69th India Independence Day.

DK Thangboi, Additional DC, Sadar Hills who graced the occasion as the chief guest hoisted the tri-color amidst presentation of National anthem by the students of JNV Kangpokpi.

Led by Sub-Inspector Lamminthang Vaiphei of Kangpokpi police, contingents from various educational institutions of Sadar Hills including Kangpokpi police personnel took part in the Independence Day parade.

Addressing the gathering, DK Thangboi said that the Independence Day is celebrated throughout country every year with great splendour, joy and respect for the country and added that Indians have dedicated the day to all the brave leaders and fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the Nation.

He further said that the Independence Day is a National festival and has an equal importance for every Indian regardless of religion, class, creed or race.

"The Independence Day should be celebrated with an effort to educate the younger generation about the struggles our past leaders and people had undergone", asserted DK Thangboi.

Several awards, blankets, sports materials were also presented to various DLOs, village chiefs, youth club members, students and police personnel.

The celebration was also attended by Thangjakam Misao, Vice-chairman, ADC Sadar Hills, H Khangba, Member, ADC Sadar Hills, P Rocky Rangtaina, Member, ADC Sadar Hills, Seikhosat Kipgen, Member, ADC, Sadar Hills, DLOs, leaders of Kuki Inpi, Sadar Hills, Churches, women societies, KTC, KWWO, KYU, village chiefs.

Jiribam (Imphal East): The 69th Independence Day was observed at Jiribam ADC office complex on August 15, reports our correspondent.

Chief guest of the function, S Imosana, ADC in-charge, called for unity, peace and collective effort to bring development in the area.

The event was also attended by the Commandant of 87th Bn CRPF, SDPO, Jiribam and other officials.

The Independence Day was also celebrated at the playground of Jiribam Higher Secondary School and was attended by HR Singh, Commandant, 27 Bn Assam Rifles, C Lokho, Commandant, 7th IRB and other Assam Rifles and IRB officials.

Ukhrul: Thousands of Ukhrul denizens gathered at Bakshi Ground, Hundung to commemorate the 69th Independence Day on August 15, reports Mungchan Zimik.

The celebration kicked off after Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind unfurled the National flag before the gathering.

Speaking at the occasion, the DC said, "Let us uphold the spirit of oneness and carry the Nation towards development and peace." Altogether, 56 contingents took part in the Independence Day parade.

Cultural and talent shows were also presented by school students.

41 AR students performed "Vande Mataram" and enthralled the crowd.

The DC also distributed special gifts to village headmen during the programme.
