Imphal, May 15:
Raising serious concern over the recent spurt of violence and rampant violation of human rights by security forces in Churachandpur district, the Kuki Movement For Human Rights has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi appealing for immediate State intervention.
Of the numerous cases of human rights violation by security forces, it specifically mentioned of the killing of Thangbieklien (18) s/o (L) Tongkhopao Haokip of Thingkangphai village by AR on May 4 in the aftermath of an ambush undertaken by an insurgent group at the heart of Churachandpur town.
Thangbieklien was an innocent student studying at Kota, Rajasthan and the unfortunate victim was on vacation when the incident took place, contended the memorandum.
Three other alleged KNF cadres were also killed in the subsequent AR firing.
Reminding that Kuki UG groups are under the Suspension of Operation pact with the security forces, the human rights body questioned the authenticity and credibility of the pact in the face of such arbitrary non-compliance of the pact.
Indiscriminate killings and gross violations of human rights by security forces particularly Assam Rifles who claimed themselves to be "friends of hill peoples" has put the local civil populace under a perpetual threat and apprehension, noted the memorandum.
