After a gap of several years, State level Healthy Baby and Best Mother competition was organised by the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Manipur at its office complex today.
The competition was graced by Health and Family Welfare Minister P Parijat as chief guest and Family Welfare Services Director Sh Raghumani as functional president.
Retired Family Welfare Director Dr Th Biren, Additional Director of Family Welfare Dr Ibemhal and Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Ch Jamini also attended the programme as guests of honour.
Giving key-note address of the function, Dr Ibemhal said that the competition was held in three categories.
First category for infants between six months and 1 year, second for children between 1 year and 2 years and the third category for children between 2 years and 3 years.
In the first category, 142 infants participated in the competition while 104 children participated in the second category.
The number of participants in the third category was 51 .
In the first category, Wangamba, son of Ph Gopichandra and Ph Rebika of Wangkhei Konsam Leikai won the first prize.
The first prize for the second category of competition was won by Banasa Chanu, daughter of M Romi of Wangkhei.
Anjana, daughter of Y Rashitombi of Langthabal Makha was the first prize winner of the third category.
The competition also selected three most healthy mothers.
Speaking at the occasion, Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat advocated delivery in hospitals and health centres saying that this would avoid several complications.
The Minister also expressed his desire to organise the healthy child and mother competition in a grand manner in the coming years.
