Drug trafficking along Imphal-Moreh route : Mobile drug testing units set up

As part of the multi-pronged exercise taken up by the State Government to combat the rising trend of drug trafficking in Manipur, State police commandos have started conducting on the spot testing of drugs to ascertain their contents along the Pallel-Moreh stretch of National Highway 2 .
Taking into account women's involvement in smuggling drugs along the route, the State Government is all prepared to deploy lady police personnel at various check posts.
Though heroin manufactured at the Golden Triangle is being smuggled into India through Manipur's border town of Moreh, frequent seizure of Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride (PH) and Ketamine Hydrochloride (KH) content drugs manufactured in India have been recorded in the last few years.
Indian origin PH and KH content drugs are highly demanded at various illegal drug manufacturing units in South East Asian countries including the Golden Triangle for regenerating them into heroin and other party drugs like the 'World is Yours' (WY) .

To ascertain the components of drugs of different colors and brand names detected along the route trained police commandos have begun conducting mobile testing of the same on the spot.
"The confusion over the contents of different drug brands detected during our regular checking along this route (NH2) is over as they can be ascertained though our testing kit," said a commando officer, who heads a mobile check unit at Bongyang village along the route .
"We have already joined a short training session on handling the testing kit imparted by Narcotic and Affairs of Borders (Nab) experts in Imphal," he said adding that the WY drugs, which were once seen as mere chocolates or sweets gems or simple pills, cannot be flown in freely.
In the meantime, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, said women police personnel would be deployed at various check posts along the Imphal-Moreh stretch to conduct frisking of women along the route taking into account the involvement of women in smuggling of drugs.
"After completion of the ongoing training of a full women IRB strength, we will deploy some of them along the route," Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, said.
