Ukhrul plunges into darkness

Ukhrul, September 11 2012: For about a week, Ukhrul town has been plunged into darkness after a panel breakdown at Hungdung on September 5and is yet to fix the damage despite repeated pleas from the public.

On enquiry about the prolonged power-cut in Ukhrul town, the officials in the district Electricity Department informed that certain power panel broke down near Cement Factory at Hundung in the afternoon of September 5 and the damage is yet to be fixed till date.

The district power department also stated that there is nothing wrong within the circuit in Ukhrul town and hinted that the error occurred on the supply line coming from Khuman Lampak power station in Imphal.

The power department, despite repeated pleas from the public to rectify the breakdown, is unable to fix the damage due to non-availability of replacement part in the State.

Public have expressed utter surprise over the reality that the State has no spare part for the damaged panel and points finger on sheer negligence against the people in Ukhrul town.

The prolonged power cut has totally disrupted normal activities in Ukhrul town.

It is exam season for schools and students have to light candle to study.

Other public utilities like mobile telephony services, printing work and file works in various government offices have also been disrupted.

Public have appealed to the concerned department to seriously look into the matter for immediate resumption of power supply in the district headquarters.
