Imphal, February 10:
Contending that president of united Clubs Organisation of Bishnupur District (UCOBID) N Sarat, vice president M Rajen, vice president L Ranjit and joint secretary N Lokendro have been falsely implicated by the 7 Assam Rifles, Campaign for Unity, Development and Peace in Manipur strongly condemned the Assam Rifles for arresting the four under concocted charge.
UCOBID is informed to be the district organiser of Campaign UNIDEP and the formers functionaries were arrested from Moirang Khunou area at around 11 pm yesterday and detained in the custody of the AR for a night before handing over to Moirang police station.
While conveying that the AR had hauled up the four on the flimsy charge of being PREPAK activists, a release by convenor of Campaign UNIDEP clarified that they were authorised to seek financial assistance from Bishnupur district public for smooth continuation of the ongoing Campaign.
Reiterating objectives of the Campaign concerning promotion of peace and equal development in the State, the convenor recalled of the Campaign kicked-off from THAU ground on November 18, 2006 and has so far covered four places in Bishnupur district and six in Thoubal district.
Till date organisers of Campaign UNIDEP had been receiving donations from all walks of life including politicians and Government employees, and there is no concrete reason why its functionaries should be put under duress and arrested with concocted charges, the convenor added.
