Imphal, September 07, 2009: The general Secretary (Finance) of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Y.Khemchand Singh has been arrested by the police allegedly for misusing his license gun have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) by an order of the Imphal west district magistrate.

Police has also taken him into their custody 15 days after producing him in the court of additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal.MPP has expressed surprised at the booking of Khemchand under NSA.

Its Dr Nimaichand Luwang said "No democracy in the state but under dictatorship".

He observed that Khemchand is the first person who a politician is being booked under NSA speaking at a press conference hurriedly called today at the party office on hearing the news.

He also alleged the arrest of the MPP general secretary politically motivated one.

He said that Khemchand has been arrested because he took a major role in the people agitations against the July 23 fake encounter.

He was the petitioner of the PIL against the imposition of curfew by the government apart from main organizer of the MPP organized mass rally on August 22 in connection with on going agitation against the July 23 incident which started from his house.

An emergency meeting of the MPP held today has strongly condemned the booking Y.Khemchand under NSA and resolved to fight the case in a higher court, said Dr Nimaichand.

MLA, O Joy who also attended the press conference, while recalling the incident on which Khemchand was arrested by police on September 4 on the charge of firing his licensed revolver on the night of September 3 observed that he had fired the gun on suspicion of some miscreants trying to intrude his house.

Khemchand received threats from unknown persons as he is doing business other than politics.Citing that many instants of gun firing by VIPs-firing of guns by an MLA of the ruling political party had fired some rounds at Babupara some time back, MLAs and minister also had also fired power minister Phungjathang's son's wedding, Joy asked why police not initiated taken up any on them by registering cases.

He also said that the party is projecting Khemchand as party candidate in the upcoming general election from Singjamei constituency.

The MPP do not fear the arrest of police or detention under NSA and the party will continue with the agitation as per schedule, declared O Joy.
