Imphal, April 06:
On invitation of Shri Shri Lalan Akhara, Sonari in Jamshedpur, a 14 member Thang-Ta team, including five female artistes performed the traditional martial arts of Manipur during the Ram Navami celebration held from March 25 till 28, informed Association for Paona Memorial Arts and Rural Development Services, Thoubal district.
Conveying that the martial artistes of the Wangkhem-based Assn drew huge crowd with their breathtaking performances, an Assn release also maintained that owing to the tremendous response and to ensure the festival crowd do not make an early exit ThangTa shows had to be repeated at all venues.
While a particular performance comprising of a sword-wielding female fighter warding off two armed male attackers received tremendous applause from the festival revellers, the Assn said that jostling for space by the spectator and media personnel resulting in spacecrunch made performance even more challenging.
The artistes had been showcasing their dare-devilry for the last five years as a part of the festival organisers striving to preserve traditional martial arts of the country, it added.
The team was led by the Assn's secretary K Hemchandra.
