Guwahati, February 06:
Demanding unconditional and immediate release of Heirok Part III Pradhan Warokpam Ibosana, apprehended by BSF personnel in the aftermath of the ambush undertaken by some unidentified UG cadres on February 2 at Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai and later handed over to police with many fabricated allegations, the Heirok Part III Gram Panchayat has cautioned the State Government of strong agitation with the help of people in case the release call goes unheeded.
A statement issued by the Gram Panchayat informed that following the ambush in which one BSF jawan was killed and two others injured, BSF personnel pour their wrath on innocent civilians asking several irrational questions.
Together with many of the innocent civilians, Pradhan Warokpam Ibosana was thrashed blue and black in the most bestial manner and was picked up by BSF personnel.
Conveying deep concern over such excesses of security forces behaving as if they were above the law of the country, it called upon the people to launch a strong movement against the continued atrocity of security forces.
It further cautioned the elected representatives that if they continue to a give a free hand to security personnel to play with the innocent lives of the State, the same misfortune as has befallen upon many families of the State including that of Warokpam Ibosana may befall upon their families.
The Gram Panchayat also condole the death of the BSF jawan and shared the pain and grief endured by the bereaved families.
On the other hand, reminding that the people of Heirok have repeatedly appealed to UG groups not to lay ambush and plant explosives in areas inhabited by civilians, it observed that such gun fights in populated areas have caused untold miseries to the people besides claiming several lives by stray bullets and forced false charges.
As such, it reiterated its appeal not to lay ambush and plant explosives against security personnel in civilian populated areas.
