Stepping up its ongoing efforts of preventing deforestation and ecology degradation, troops of 38 Assam Rifles prevented timber smuggling and seized 550 cft of timber at Kotlen.
According to a PIB Defence Wing press handout, the timber were being illegally transported out of Imphal in three trucks bearing registration nos.MN01-6189, MN05-2437 and MN01-547.The trucks were intercepted while the troops were carrying out frisking and random checking of vehicles at Kotlen today at around 9.30 am.
The owners of the trucks have been identified as Y Shantakumar of Nambol, Gopal Sharma of Lamphel and Amumacha of Uripok, the press handout said, adding that the seized timber alongwith the trucks and the owners have been handed over to Forest Office, Imphal.
On the other hand, troops of 4 Assam Rifles seized 220 litres of country made illicit liquor from a Maruti Van (MN01-4363) near Tasar Research Centre today.
The seized liquor along with the Van and its owner were handed over to Koirengei police station, according to a statement issued by PRO HQ IGAR (S).
Immunisation camp: Under the aegis of Hqs 26 Sector, 10 Assam Rifles in conjunction with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Manipur organised an immunisation camp for children at Chakpikarong.
