Imphal, December 27: Minister of Fisheries Md Allaudin Khan distributed gill nets and collapsible traps to fish farmers today.

In a follow-up programme of a training cum awareness programme held yesterday at District Fishery Office, Lamphelpat jointly organised by the State Fisheries Department and the Central Institute of Fishery Technology (CIFT), Cochin, the fishing equipment were distributed today.

Speaking on the occasion, senior scientist of CIFT Dr MP Ramesan said that in commemoration of the pioneer fishery research institute's golden jubilee, the State fish farmers were given training on gill net fishing and responsible fishing practices yesterday.

In the last 50 years, the CIFT has developed several technologies and gained huge knowledge in the Fishery sector (both marine and inland).

Of the technologies developed by CIFT, mechanised fishing boat and some modern fishing gears may be mentioned, Ramesan said.

Acknowledging the cooperation extended by Fisheries Department and fish farmers of the State, the senior scientist said that the CIFT is planning to organise another training programme on Caning of fish and fisheries products.
