Imphal, February 26, 2010:
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has expressed strong resentment over the order issued by the Directorate of Education (S) in regard to the "Revise of Academic Calander" for schools in Manipur, and insisted the authority on immediately withdrawing the order what it called "bias". If the government fails to withdraw the said order, the SDSA warned that it will not remain silent but react accordingly in the general interest of the hill districts' students fraternity.
For that the State Government, BSEM and Directorate of Education (S) will have to bear responsibility of the consequences, president of SDSA, A Pfokrehrii Khrasi informed in a press release today.
The press release further warned that it will not tolarate such provoking move of the State Government's policy to favour only certain sections of the State in the wake of law and order problems in the valley.
Strongly condemning what it called the unneccesary act of delay in releasing the text books to be issued by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) for all the schools in Manipur, the SDSA president further stated that such unfavourable revision and delaying tactics of the State Government and the BSEM will only create more alienation between the hill districts educational system and that of the valley.
Knowing fully the festive season and extreme weather condition of the hill districts like Senapati, the SDSA questioned the motive of the State Government and Education Department to disturb the natural and socio-traditional interest of the hill/tribal people.
Moreover, creating a revised calendar at the expense of another community will only deepen the present crises, for which the said order is uncalled for and against the wishes of the general public in the hill districts of the State, the president stated.
Further, by mere claims of putting fake and artificial reasons like synchronizing the academic calendar of Manipur Board with other States will never serve the purpose of the State Government in dealing with law and order failure in the valley.
Making the hill districts students a scapegoat of the State Government's policy to tackle the present scenario of Poor Governance, The SDSA in the interest of the student's community will not succumb to such pressures.
Therefore, the SDSA asked the State Government and the concerned Department to immediately withdraw the said order and release the books at the earliest.
It may be understood, aftermath the stalemate of the State Government with some organisation and subsequent closure of the educational institutions in some parts of the State for some months, thousands of students were affected.
The SDSA while acknowledging the loss of precious classes and time, also warned that, changing the academic calendar after every law and order problems will create impediments in the future and isolate the hill based students of the state, the president said.
