Imphal, August 25:
One Ahanthem Kumar (27) of Iroishemba Maning Leikai was arrested by police on the charge of stealing fish from the pond of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroishemba on August 18.On questioning, Kumar confessed that he stole the fish from the pond belonging to the Animal Science Department of CAU together with two other individuals.
The other two individuals are absconding.
The fishes reared for experimental purposes were stolen in the intervening night of August 17 and 18.Police arrested Kumar after a complaint was lodged at Lamphel police station about the theft on August 18.For his crime Ahanthem Kumar was sent to jail on August 22, informed a police source.
Officials of the Animal Science Department, CAU disclosed that the two absconding thieves might be Aheibam Naocha (26) and Lourembam Sanatomba (26), belonging to the locality of Kumar.
It is reported that Naocha and Sanatomba, along with their parents came to Head of Animal Science Department M Dhaneshwar and Dean College of Agriculture N Iboton on August 20 and confessed involvement of their sons in the crime and pleaded to forgive them.
Even as the thieves and their parents were asked to settle the matter with police in presence of CAU officials as a case was already registered in Lamphel police, they never came back and have been absconding since then.
The stolen fishes were almost two years old and weighed about 2/3 kgs.
Around 1500 number of fishes were stolen by the three of them.
