Imphal, August 22:
The futility of making the fertiliser (urea) available to the farmers of the State after the due timing of applying fertiliser in their fields have been pointed out and discussed during a joint meeting farmers, dealers and Government officials today.
The meeting held at the conference hall of the Directorate of Agriculture located at Sanjenthong here was attended by Agriculture Director RK Noyonsana, Deputy Director Ng Ibopishak, fertiliser dealers and representatives of Nongchup Imphal Loumee Shinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup.
The meeting discussed the problems being faced by the farmers due to shortage of fertiliser in the market and its high price if it is available as well as of the difficulties faced by the dealers in bringing the allocated State quota of the fertiliser from the factory due to various factors.
The meeting took serious note of the fact that if the required fertiliser could not be made available to the farmers for applying in the field during the current month, then there would be no point in applying the same next month.
While expressing optimism that the problem of shortage of fertiliser in the State would be solved if around 140 fertiliser loaded trucks which have been stranded along the way due to occurrence of landslides in some parts of Nagaland could be brought to Imphal, the meeting, however, could not assure when the stranded trucks would arrive at Imphal.
Accordingly, the meeting decided to urge the Govt of Manipur in seeking the co-operation of its Nagaland counterpart to help in bringing the stranded fertiliser trucks toImph al at the soonest possible.
