New Delhi, September 21:
The city police today informed the Delhi High Court that three FIRs have been registered in the alleged molestation of college girls by some aspirants for police service in the Delhi University last week.
Filing the status report before the Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna, the counsel for Delhi Police Mukta Gupta said the FIRs pertaining to three separate incidents near DU between September 15-19 were registered with Mukherjee Nagar, Civil Lines and Maurice Nagar police stations.
The Bench, however, transferred the matter to another court after the counsel informed that FIR with Mukherjee Nagar PS related to an incident which was oganised by the North East students on September 15.Incidentally, the Chief Justice, before whom the matter was listed for hearing, hails from the state of Assam.
The PIL is now fixed for September 24 before a different Bench.
According to the report, police delayed to register FIRs as in the first incident of eve-teasing the complainant had declined to reveal her name.
In the second incident on September 16, the warden of IP college had requested for deployment of more force in the area to maintain law and order in view of the examination for the police constables but refused to reveal the incident, the Counsel added.
Denying any previous instance of eve teasing by any aspirant police constable, she said in last two years 43,000 candidates have appeared for the examination but no previous incident of molestation have been recorded so far.
About the third incident, she stated that another FIR was registered on receipt of a complaint from a student at Police Head Quarter on September 19 alleged that she had seen some persons abusing a girl near the metro station and there was no police force deployed for assistance.
The Bench was hearing a PIL filed by a college student through advocate Sugriv Dubey seeking judicial enquiry into the alleged incidents.
The petitioner has sought immediate direction to the Delhi Police Commissioner to nab the culprits and alleged that police were not taking any action despite complaints.
Some men, who appeared in a test for recruitment of policemen in the capital, allegedly molested students of Indraprastha College of Delhi University in the evening of September 16 when the girls were on their way to a freshers' party organised in their college, the petitioner said.
The petitioner contended that the Police had been reluctant in taking action against aspiring policemen even after registration of an FIR.
The petitioner also pleaded that identification parade of all the candidates who appeared for test be conducted forthwith to nab the accused.
