Ukhrul, November 20:
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Ukhrul organised a human rights awareness workshop at Shungri (Sorde) village, Phungyar sub-division from November 16 till 18 2007.NPMHR functionaries also visited Sorbung village which was recently in the news because of bomb blast on November 2, seriously injuring three school going children during roadside clearance work initiated by a para-military force unit.
The NPMHR team also visited Primary Health Centre, Phungyar which is in pathetic condition.
Besides taking grim note of absence of basic amenities in the health centre, the NPMHR in a statement conveyed concern over the alleged high-handedness of 1 AR, Sorde post personnel and the treatment meted out to Ms.Nidhi Kesharwani, SDO, Ukhrul during her visit to Sorbung recently.
This is totally uncalled for, as the army is there to assist civil administration, the body fumed.
Further the NPMHR called upon authorities concerned to take cognizance of the incidents and conditions, and take up appropriate measures.
