Imphal, October 16 2008:
The Maring Uparup Assembly, Maring Napuiya Yinglam and the Maring Students' Union have strongly condemned the celebration of Heichingbawng, the so called pre-harvest festival of Khoibu tribe which is allegedly non-existent.
A joint press release issued by the Maring bodies decried that cultural activities were performed during the festival by men and women wearing traditional costumes and other items belonging to the Maring tribe.
Asserting that Khoibu is not name of a tribe but a village belonging to the Marings, the Maring bodies warned that befitting actions will be initiated against any individual or group trying to misuse the rich culture, tradition and identity of the Maring tribe.
