Lamka, January 16:
Atleast two third of the square meal sanctioned for inmates of the 100-bedded district hospital here went missing each day while the quality of the modest ration served was found to be unfit for human consumption.
When inspected on the spot, the ration chef confided that a meagre 12 kg of sub-standard rice, two kg of dal, a bulk of green vegetable and 1.5 kg of meat (bones) were being prepared for the square meal.
This completely contradict the records maintained, as per the record 36.600 kg of rice, 7.142 kg of vegetables and 7.142 kg of meat each were sanctioned for patients of the 32 bed in Medical ward, 28 in Surgical ward, 24 in C/ENT ward and 16 in MAT/GYE ward.
On observing the record it is also ascertained that the sanctions were largely made in its full capacity regardless of the patient it accommodated.
Officials identified the supply contractor as one Ngurdoulien of Rengkai, however they hesitantly added that the task was assigned to another unknown individual.
As a result of the rations being inhumanely chopped, needy patients had to fight even for the sub-standard ration as it never was sufficient to feed the targeted number of patients.
'First come first serve' recipe was a norm as a result.
