Imphal, August 07: In continuation of its agitation demanding district status for Jiribam Sub-Division of Imphal East District, the Jiribam District Demand Committee has called a 24-hour general strike in the sub-division with effect from 6 pm tomorrow till 6 pm of August 9, reports our correspondent.

The Committee which is spearheading the movement for upgrading Jiribam to a full-fledged revenue district has also warned the Government against inauguration of any project or laying of foundation stone during the general strike.

The Committee said that the State Government would be held responsible for any untoward incident if it fails to honour the strike.

Local MLA and Minister Th Debendra reportedly arrived at Jiribam to lay the foundation stones of various Govt projects in the sub-division today.
