Along with the arrest of a drug abuser/dealer yesterday, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association has closed down a pharmacy which was found selling drugs without the prescription from doctors for one month.
The arrest drug abuser/dealer is identified as Samurailatpam Japan s/o Sanahal of Wangkhei Koijam Leikai.
He was arrested reportedly arrested from near his house in the evening yesterday.
Japan was allegedly procuring the drugs namely Berium-10, Alzoram and Lonzep from a pharmacy located at Kongba Keithel.
AMADA has also managed to round up salesmen of the Raghumani Pharmacy who sold the drugs without prescription from doctors this afternoon.
They have been identified as Ningombam Robin s/o Khomei of Kongba Laishram Leikai and Laishram Joychandra s/o Dhananjoy of Kongba Laikhuram .
Address a press conference in this connection at the Keishampat head office of AMADA today, executive member of the Association Konjengbam Meghachandra informed that the license of the pharmacy was given by Medical Director Ch Chandramani after being verified by Drug Inspector N Chitralekha in the name of Laikhuram Bobo s/o Raghumani of Ucheckon Lai Muriba.
During the course of investigation, it has come to light that the validity of the license had been not only expired, but the pharmacy was opened at Kongba Keithel instead of Ucheckon Lai Muriba Mathak Leikai as mentioned in the license, Meghachandra said, adding that Drug Inspector Chitralekha had also Rs 4000 at the time of issuing the license without ever going for site inspection to study whether it fulfils the laid down criteria.
So the pharmacy has been closed down for one month by AMADA with immediate effect from today, Meghchandra said.
He further announced that AMADA would be taking up any drive in all the pharmacies of Manipur to find out whether they fulfil the criteria, license, medicines being sold and the educational qualification of the salesmen being employed.
Action would be taken up against any pharmacy which do not fulfil the criteria, he warned.
Side by side with investigating into the process of issuing license to the pharmacies by the Medical Directorate and other relevant Departments, AMADA is also planning to conduct a workshop to improve the quality of the pharmacies in Manipur and other related matters, Meghachandra further disclosed.
