Imphal, February 05, 2009: THE 18-DAY long Nat-Sangskritan training cum production course orgainsed by the Akademy of Indian Music (AIM), Keishmapat Top Leirak concluded today with a function held at the Manipur Dramatic Union, Yaiskul Policeland.

The concluding function was graced by director of the Manipur State Kala Akademy Dr Kh Sorojini as chief guest, Langpoklakpam Lakpati, Sangit Natak Awardee as president and Y Gambini, and Ksh Tohuranisabi Padmashree awardees as guest of honours.

The director, Sorojini said that if arts and culture and kala sangskriti are not, then Manipur might not be known by the other parts of the globe.

The sportsperson also help in exposing the arts and culture of the state.

She also recalled the history of the state and said since the period of the king Garibiniwaj Hindu religion arrived in the state and since the period of the Maharaj Gambir Singh, the worshipping of Govindaji started in the temples in the state.

The amalgamation of the indigenous arts and culture of the olden Manipur with that of Hindus makes for rich to the arts and culture of the state, she observed.

Among the arts formed that amalgamated and become for attractive was Nat-sangkritan and raj dance, to mention, she added.

State got innumerable invitations to participate state's pung Cholom, Raj Dance, Thang-ta etc.

in the international cultural meets.

So, part from preserving the originality of the arts forms of the state, there is the need of uplifting it, she added.

Giving his presidential speech at the gathering, Lakpati expressed concerned over the lack of thorough study in the art forms of the state even though it has been well known and performed in nook and corners of the globe and observed the need for holding discussion on the subject frequently.

He also said that it is a good one to follow the trend of the performance of the yesteryears gurus by today's performers.

More successful in the performance will be come up if study deep into the arts form, they are performing.

Honouring of teachers who tough the students during the course and distribution of certificates to the participants of the course marked the function.

Students of AIM also staged Maiba-Maibi dance, Dhol Cholom, Moirang Sai, Nupa Pala, Pung Cholom, Khubak Chagoi Cholom and a short play "Ojah Ningsingba".
