In keeping with the efforts of the Army to carryout developmental projects in the remote areas of Manipur under Military Civic Action (MCA) programme, General Officer Commanding Headquarters 57 Mountain Division Major General Shakti Gurung handed over a set of five computers to Mr David Ashuli, for setting up a computer training centre at Makhan village, said a PIB (DW) statement.
The computer training centre is being set up in remembrance of the Kargil War hero Sepoy K Ashuli, VrC of Makhan, who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
The war hero was awarded the Vir Chakra for his conspicuous bravery.
Mr David Ashuli is the brother of Sep K Ashuli VrC.
Two printers, a phone cum fax machine and necessary furniture items were also handed over, it added.
General Gurung also handed over sewing and knitting machines to the Maram Naga Women Baptist Association (MNWBA) Senapati.
The MNWBA works for the upliftment of the down trodden women and will establish a vocational training centre for them in Senapati.
The General also presented two computers alongwith a printer to the village authorities of Old Makhan village to support the villagers in weaning away the village youth from insurgency and guiding them on the path of development.
Mrs Madhu Gurung the first lady of 57 Mountain Division also handed over nine Sewing Machines and nine Embroidery Machines to selected underprivileged residents of Thanga Part - I and Ithai Khunou.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Maj Gen Shakti Gurung thanked them for their support towards the Security Forces operating in the area as a whole and also appealed to the public to continue with their support in the future as well, the statement conveyed adding that GOC highlighted various projects being undertaken by the Army in the Division AOR for the benefit of the people.
The function also had speeches by various dignitaries and finally concluded with the words of thanks and gratitude for the 57 Mountain Division.
