Imphal, Jul 04:
Alleging that instructions of central Government authorities pertaining to implementation of Border Area Development Programmes (BADP) have been flouted in Chakpikarong and Tengnoupal sub-division areas, the Hill Area Committee of Manipur Loumi Lup has voiced strong desire for execution of the BADP with strict compliance to true spirit and objective of the project.
In a statement issued to the press, the Lup recalled of schemes under the BADP being conceived to alleviate hardships faced by people residing in border areas with priority on villages falling within the 15 kilometre belt from international boundaries.
The said instructions of the Government of India is to give specific importance to those areas laying close to the international border for improvement and development of the interior areas with the Centre allocating all the necessary fund for execution of approved schemes, said the Hill Area Committee of the Lup.
Pointing out that for district or block headquarters development fund is being extended by both the State and Central governments, the Lup also opined that currently fund allocation for the BADPs is very nominal and there is urgent need for covering the identified border areas rather than diverting the funds at the behest of politicians on community basis.
Contending that the body had received information that Chakpikarong and Tengnoupal sub-division areas would be out of the purview of the BADP fund provision, the Committee cautioned that in case malpractices in implementation of the scheme persist it would agitate.
