Imphal, December 02 2009:
Following the State Government's alleged negligence to the charter of demands made by Senapati District Students' Assn (SDSA), the student body in its emergency second presidential council meeting held today has decided to launch a five day economic blockade along NH-39 with effect from midnight of December 5.The said blockade will be imposed on all inter-State economic goods carriers including empty trucks, a press release said.
However, goods related to medical, defence, religion and other necessary permissible goods will be exempted, the press release added.
Maintaining that the blockade has been enforced against the non-compliance of the genuine demands, which are for the welfare of the people, SDSA urged the general public to bear the inconveniences and co-operate with the blockade.
It further said that SDSA would be compelled to intensify the agitation if the State Government fails to respond positively.
