Imphal, February 01:
Under the aegis of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, the 3rd death anniversary of Ima Kombi was observed today at Ihoupham Keithel, Khoyathong.
Born on February 5, 1939 at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, Ima Kombi breathed her last on February 1, 2004. Paying of floral tributes to the portrait of the departed activist and remembering her deeds were the main features of the observation.
The observance was graced by social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima and Poirei Leimarol president Longjam Memchoubi as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary general of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur Th Apabi recalled that Ima Kombi was a champion of human rights and staunch crusader against violence on women.
Salai Apunba Nupi Lup president Y Ibeyaima recalled that Ima Kombi fought relentlessly against all acts of human rights violation regardless of whether such acts were committed in Imphal or far off villages of hill districts.
Remembering the great sacrifices made by Ima Kombi for the cause of the State with a firm conviction based on truth, it is a must to give up distrust, animosity and egocentrism if the people are intent upon following the footsteps of Ima Kombi, observed Ibeyaima.
Human rights activist Phulindro Konsam asserted that the establishment of State Commission for Women under the pretext of protecting women's rights was a ploy of the Union Government to create a gender crisis in the State.
While all the people of the State are being denied the basic human rights, the women of the State have been struggling for the rights of the people.
The establishment of Women Commission to empower women against the existing social condition of the State is a conspiracy of the Union Government to bring a gender crisis so that the ongoing campaign against human rights violation is confine to women alone, Phulindro said.
Saying that Ima Kombi could not achieve her goal of ensuring human rights to the people of Manipur, he noted that people should continue with their struggle to get their rights.
Today's observance was also attended by numerous Meira Paibi leaders from all over the State.
