Kohima, December 10 (NEPS): Although ruling NPF has won maximum seats in the Kohima and Dimapur Municipal and almost all the Town Council elections in the State, BJP on the other hand surprised the people as it not only captured two-third seats in Wokha Town Council elections but also could wrest many seats in Kiphire, Naganimora, Longlen, Kohima and Dimapur.

For the first time in Nagaland, the BJP is going to form Town Committee in Wokha Town as the party has won two-third seats in the just concluded Town Council elections in the district.

Out of fifteen Wards, BJP won 10 seats, leaving 2 seats to NPF and 3 to Independents.

The BJP candidates who won in the Wokha Town Council elections are Wopenthung Kikon, Thungchepemo, Yanpothung Jami, Nrio Murry, Khamongo Humtsoe, Phyochamo Ngullie, Merithung Odeyo, Motsuthung, Ajamo Ezung and Rhukumo Kikon.

Three major political parties---NPF (regional) and BJP (national) and INC (national) as well as independents were the main players in this time�s Municipal and Town Council elections in Nagaland, while parties like Samata Party and JD (U), etc didn�t take part though they had won seats in the last Assembly elections in Nagaland.

Although NPF and BJP are major constituents in the ruling DAN coalition, candidates of both parties in some Wards in Dimapur Municipal and other Town Councils fought neck to neck to wrest the seats.

While Independent candidates also fared well in this time�s Municipal and Town Council elections.

Interestingly, the main opposition Congress has been completely rejected in ten Town Council elections in Medziphema, Tuli, Pfutsero, Tseminyu, Wokha, Zunheboto, Chumukedima, Longlen and Changtongya.

It may be mentioned that for the first time, Nagaland went to Municipal Council elections in Dimapur and Kohima along with 16 Town Council elections.

Mokokchung Municipal election couldn�t take place following protest from the citizens of the town.

Meanwhile State Election Commissioner, TN Manen expressed his happiness on all the political parties and independents for their cooperation during the elections.
