Imphal, August 29:
While strongly condemning the alleged apathetic attitude of the State Government towards Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM), the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has endorsed the cause for which the ZSUM has been agitating.
A press release issued by ZSUM asserted that even as the BRO/GREF has refused to take up Tousem-Haflong road, New Keiphundai-Tousem road and Kangpokpi-Tamenglong road vie Tamei for lack of man-power, the State Government has been refusing to hand over the development work of Old Cachar road/Tongjei Maril to BRO for which the BRO had given its consent long back and Rs 86 crores sanctioned already under NEC.
Accusing the PWD of swindling crores of rupees meant for construction of Tamenglong-Haflong road and other road improvement works in Tamenglong district without ever executing the relevant work, the ZU warned the authority concerned and contractors to withdraw all contract works and stop working immediately or face immense loss and suffering for which no one should be blamed.
Moreover, roads in Tamenglong district have been placed under PWD divisions (Old Cachar road under Bishnupur division and Kangpokpi-Tamenglong road under Sadar Hills division) with the alleged ulterior motive to keep the people in dark about their corrupt practices.
Maintaining that it's time to evict PWD from Tamenglong district and to entrust all development works to another agency preferably to an agency under Union Govt for the progress and welfare of the people, the ZU noted that people has lost all its faith in the PWD.
The ZU also called upon all citizens and organisations to support the ongoing agitation of ZSUM in the greater interest and welfare of the people.
