Imphal, January 27: Numerous protest sessions were organised at different places to denounce the brutal murder of Yumkhaibam Gopen of Mayang Langjing by unidentified persons on January 23 evening.

The JAC formed in connection with the killing has also insisted that all armed outfits clarify their respective position on the matter as failure to reciprocate positively by any outfit would be construed as responsible for the brutal act.

It may be recalled that Y Gopen was found shot dead at a paddy field located near his house with the JAC and the victim�s locals refusing to claim the body until and unless organisation concerned clarify on the matter.

Denouncing the killing sit-in-protests were staged under the aegis of women bodies (Meira Paibis) at Mayang Langjing and near-by localities today including at Mayang Langjing community hall, Taothong Khunou, Lamshang Bazar, Lamdeng Lamkhai, Ngairangbam Kwasiphai, Mayang Langjing Kwasiphai, Kameng Sabal LP School, Nongchup Kameng, Loitang Shangdum LP School, Loitang Khullen Mayai Leikai Bazar Board, Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang, Mana Ingkhol Waiting Shed, Akham Laingamkhol Meira Shang, Loitang Khunou etc.

Interacting with media persons at the protest sites, president of JAC Against the Killing of Y Gopen Shyamkanhai, secretary Manglemjao Yumnamcha and member Laishram Kumidini asserted that Gopen was an innocent cultivator and kerosene agent and do not deserve such brutal and premature death.

Insisting that all armed outfits clarify without further delay, they also contended that any organisation that fail to heed the call would be considered as the perpetrator/s.Labelling baseless accusations after having committed the crime would also be unacceptable, maintained the JAC functionaries while conveying that Gopen�s wife and younger brother are admitted to Shija hospital for mental trauma in addition to the victim�s parent yet to recover from the shocking incident.

They further appealed to civil society organisations and all concerned to extend cooperation in tracking the criminal elements.

Representatives of Akham Youth Development Club (Lamshang-Khurkhul Road), Sabal Khunou Youth Development Club (Kameng Sabal) and Taning Development Club, Mayang Langjing also condemned the killing of Yumkhaibam Gopen of Mayang Langjing by unidentified persons besides conveying solidarity to grief of the bereaved family.
