Imphal, May 23 2009: 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under IGAR (South) and the Chandel District administration joined hands in construction a self help community cum training hall at Bongyang.

Inaugurating the community hall today, Commander of 26 Sector Assam Rifles Brig Balbir Singh said the community cum training hall would serve as a role model for all other villages not only in Chandel district but also in the entire State.

He also assured that Assam Rifles is committed to live up to its motto of 'Friends of the North Eastern people' and would do all that is possible to help the locals through such welfare measures.

With the construction of this community cum training hall, efforts would be made by the Assam Rifles to start vocation training programmes for the local women for self empowerment, PRO Assam Rifles said in a statement.

During the inaugural function, the Commander was accompanied by Amandeep Kour, who is the president of ARWWA, 26 Sector.

The event was made memorable by the Maring cultural troupe which presented dances and songs, the PRO said, adding that successful completion of this project is the true reflection of integration of all the agencies for a noble common cause.

A medical camp had also been organised at the occasion and it was followed by screening of a movie in the newly constructed hall, the PRO informed, adding that the villagers of Bongyang and surrounding areas have expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the welfare projects undertaken by Assam Rifles.

AR assists: 6 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) has provided 20 CGI sheets to Mombi village yesterday.

According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, the villagers have conveyed their gratitude to the AR unit for the good work and resolution to extend full co-operation in future endeavours.

On the other hand, 29 AR of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) has provided administrative assistance to villages around Ril Ram Centre yesterday.

This kind and helping step taken by AR has been appreciated by one and all in the area.
