Protest staged against NIT at Kyamgei

Imphal, May 23: Maintaining that it would not relax its agitation until and unless the State Government comes out with a definite assurance that the proposed NIT will be constructed at some other place, a protest sitting was staged against construction of NIT at Kyamgei agricultural land under the aegis of the JAC today at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi.

Speaking to reporters at the venue of the protest sitting, representatives of the JAC Against Construction of NIT at Kyamgei Loukon condemned the plan of the Government to acquire agricultural land for the proposed NIT.

Welcoming the statement of the Chief Minister made during the Assembly session that the Government has been looking for another alternative site, the JAC members asserted that what they wish is a definite assurance that the NIT will be built at some other place.

The JAC cautioned that it would continue and intensify its stir in case the State Government fails to come out with definite assurance that the NIT will not be built at Kyamgei agricultural land.

Since April, sit-in-protest have been staged at Pal Ahanbi and Canchipur against the construction of NIT at Kyamgei agricultural land.

Today's protest sitting was also a part of the JAC's agitation launched since April, they added.
