The five member team of National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) New Delhi has collected 13 blood samples from infected persons in their attempt to unravel the mystery disease which had claimed 12 in Bishnupur district.
The NICD team has been in the district for the last three days to conduct on the spot examination of the mystery disease with the assistance of Additional Director of State Health Services Dr Thokchom Biren and senior research officer of ICMR (Manipur Branch).
The team also collected furs of domestic animals like cats, dogs and even mouse to verify whether they act as vector of the disease for further communication to human beings or they themselves are infected, said Dr Biren.
Some of the blood samples have been taken to National Institute of Virology, Pune today for a thorough examination there by the noted virologist Dr Joshi, informed Dr Biren.
He mentioned that the remaining samples would be taken to NICD, New Delhi by the four other team members tomorrow.
Dr Biren informed that the results of the blood sample examinations as well as the recommendations to fight the disease would be dispatched to him.
