Imphal, May 17:
The yang Raphei Conference, Ukhrul has served and ultimatum to the Chief Minister to either initiate appropriate punitive action against certain PWD officials within May 28 or brace up for strong agitation in the district.
According to a Conference release, the Centre Government had in july, 2005 sanctioned Rs 3.47 crore for implementing development of Nunghar-Khamasom-Poi-Chingai road under the Central Road Fund (CRF) with a time-frame of two years.
However, due to Government apathy and connivance between the PWD, Ukhrul and sub-contractors concerned no significant progress could be seen in the implementation of the said work, the Conference statement endorsed by village headmen/authorities of the mentioned areas, said.
Detailing that the work programme entailed earth work, WBM and black topping of the 11 kilometre stretch is yet to take shape from even the initial stage, the Ukhrul body also alleged of 70 percent of the allocated fund already withdrawn.
Contending that Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Section Officer of the PWD unit have violated all relevant norms by approving withdrawal of running bill inspite of the fact that even the earth work portion had not been completed, the Conference also expressed scepticism on ability of completing the sanctioned work within the stipulated period (July 2007) taking into account negligent and lethargic approach of the Government.
