Imphal, September 16 2025:
Providing immediate relief to flood affected people under Lamlai Assembly Constituency, MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha has distributed essential commodities to roughly 400 families.
The families are from flood ravaged areas in Lamlai AC including Nongren Awang Leikai, Nongpok Kakching, Chalou, Lamlai.
Yourabung Khunou, Yourabung Khunjao, Sawombung Kabui Khunjao, Sawombung Thongkhong and Itam Nungoi Kharasom among others.
Speaking in this connection, Kh Ibomcha said incessant rainfall caused the Leimakhong River to overflow and flooded the villages from Sanasabi and Yaingangpokpi to Imphal-Ukhrul Road.
With no way for the water to run off, Lamlai, Chalou, Kharasom, Yourabung Khunou, Yourabung Khunjao, Sawombung Kabui Khunjao and Kharasol have become waterlogged.
According to the MLA, the floodwaters should be drained by the Iril River, but with the riverwater level rising, there is nowhere for the water to run off and the villages continue to remain submerged, he said.
Addressing the repeated flooding in Lamlai area, he appealed for an end to deforestation in the hills and encroachment of rivers and drains in the valley.
He also asserted that the State Government will aim to undertake all necessary measures to resolve the problem of recurring floods.
The relief materials included rice, lentils, cooking oil, potatoes etc.
The affected families have thanked MLA Kh Ibomcha for the relief effort.
