Imphal, January 16:
Reiterating its demand for necessary procedure to enable students appear in examinations, All manipur Colleges Students' Union asserted that its proposal placed before authority concerned is in the interest of the student community.
Alleging that MU authorities are instigating certain student activists to create fear psychosis within the AMCSU organisation with the intention of compelling the student body withdraw its justified demand, said a release.
Asking MU authorities against adopting anti-student stance, AMCSU threatened that failure to desist from a such strong-armed tactics would constraint the Union to approach National leaders for appropriate action.
Pointing out that both BOHSEM and COHSEM had been following guidelines mentioned in the National Curriculum Framework 2000 and 2005, AMCSU questioned which UGC guideline had been preventing MU from making necessary procedures to conduct the said 'examination'.
Substantiating its contention AMCSU stated that compared to BOHSEM and COHSEM prescribing compartmental/supplementary examination system, and MU too extending such facility in the Masters' degree level denying graduate level students from similar provision is unacceptable.
Apart from cautioning authorities concerned that lack of positive response to the AMCSU proposals would compel the Union to impose general strike, it also urged other student bodies to act responsibly.
On the otherhand, stating that demands of the All Manipur College Students' Union are genuine and need to be immediately honoured, DM College of Science students' Union prevailed upon the State authorities to do the needful in order to ensure tranquil atmosphere at higher institutions.
