Guwahati, May 15:
Despite having constructed a water reservoir, people living in the remote Aimol area of the Chandel district have not been getting potable water for the last 20 years as the reservoir has not been made functional.
Highlighting the difficulties being faced by the people to mediapersons who have gone there during an inspection tour organised by National Identity Protection Committee, village chairman KH Sangshuangeir informed that water pipes to drain the water from the reservoir has not been provided all these years.
In such a situation, the villagers are using the water from Sekwai river located some 1 km from the village for drinking as well as for other day-to-day use.
The media team came upon that as there is no building of its own, the only LP School at Kumbirei village has been functioning from building of the Joint Forest Management Committee of the Forest Development Agency.
The media team was informed that the said school building had been blown away in a storm some 10 years back and no arrangement have been made for the reconstruction of the building.
An interactive session attended by many village leaders and representatives of NIPCO was also held to discuss necessary measures for the development of the people living in Aimol valley.
