The "Indo-Myanmar Army Car Rally" has reached Dimapur today and the forty five member car ralliyists will be heading for Manipur tomorrow.
Upon their arrival they were given a warm reception by authorities at the 3 Corps Headquarters, Rangapahar.
The rally was flagged off from New Delhi on December 5 by Defence Minister AK Antony.
It comprises of forty five members � twelve from the Myanmarese Army and thirty three from the Indian Army.
Briefing the media upon their arrival at Dimapur today, rally spokesperson Col Chatterjee said the aim of the rally was to pay homage to those Indian soldiers who had died in the eastern theatre during the Second World War and were laid to rest at Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar.
Col Chatterjee expressed optimism that the rally would strengthen bilateral relations between the Indian Army and the Myanmerese Army.
The rallyists have already travelled through Delhi, UP, Bihar and Assam covering a distance of about 2,400 km of the total of more than 8,000 km.
It will be flagged off from here on December 11 (Monday) by Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta for onward journey to Yangon via Manipur.
In Myanmar, the rallyists will transit through Tamu, Mandalay, Taungoo and finally reach Yangon.
This route will acquaint them with a number of historical battlefields of the Burma Campaign of World War II, where a number of Indian Army Regiments had won their Battle Honours with distinction.
At Yangon, a commemorative ceremony will be organised at the Taukkyan War Cemetery, after which the ralltists will leave for their return journey to Delhi.
They are expected to reach Delhi on December 28.
